Programs

Boys of Distinction and Girls of Grace:

A school-based enrichment program for students in grades three through twelve, this option motivates and empowers students to sustain their own healthy educational careers. Along with all B.O.Y.D. programs, Boys of Distinction and Girls of Grace require monthly parent participation in family-building activities.

Drumming To A Different Beat:

This program services African American males ages 9 to 17. Its primary goals are to get young men motivated to stay in school and value education. Through a series of activities, young men participate in business planning, mock interviews, reading, life-skills, and table and business etiquette.

Girls of Grace:

This program is the sister program of Drumming To A Different Beat, and its core participants are African American females ages 9 to 17. Its primary goals are to get young women motivated to stay in school and value education. Through a series of activities young women participate in business planning, mock interviews, reading, life skills and table and business etiquette.

The Upperclassmen:

This program services young men of all races in 11th and 12th grades. The name is inspired by Morehouse College’s “Five Wells” of being a man — these students will be well-read, well-spoken, well-traveled, well-dressed, and well-balanced. Students are taught how to knot a neck tie and bow tie, how to write effective college essays, an overview on creating their own businesses, and much more. Participants in this program take a journey into discovering who they really are on the inside while dressing the part of who they will become on the outside.

Summer Enrichment Program:

This is a rigorous 8-week program designed to push students’ mental mettle to their limits. With cultural enrichment trips every week, students explore their history while forging their paths into the future. Activities also include critical thinking games, teamwork activities, and extensive writing. Students’ brains are on overdrive instead of summer brain freeze.

B.O.Y.D. Parent Academy:

B.O.Y.D. Parent Academy is designed to link parents to educational resources for their children. B.O.Y.D. realizes that it is important for students to receive full support throughout their academic careers. Studies show that students who are reared by involved and encouraging parents or guardians achieve a higher rate of academic success than students who are not. To address this gap, B.O.Y.D. Parent Academy offers workshops on college preparation, finances, community activism, and parenting tips.
